Conservation of Cheshmeh-Ali Historic Garden

As a demonstrative of a fundamental connection among pristine nature, existence of human power in organizing space and significant role of water and green landscape to emphatically clarify ecosystem, “Historic Garden” presents an architectural concept , which carries the site has been settle by the garden.

The presence of historically architectural compartments naming pavilion, entrance monument and service spaces (brings a variety of histo-cultural meanings into “Garden Design” idea. The addition of “Historic” attribute into “Garden” caused the historic landscape to achieve a high quality equaling archeological conserved monuments.

Cheshmeh Ali” in Damqan, a survived sample of “Historic Garden”, is considered as an elegant and unique complex assembling the ecological & environment features, monument and ritual costumes; meanwhile, the discovery of principles affecting the garden formation comes to reality through an analytical research on. Moreover, due to architectural and structural analyze on different aspects, the historic garden brings the resultant potential placed in the site and final complex of forming cultural context factors together.

The Qajar monarchsspecial attention to “Cheshmeh Ali “vicinity , while considering the historic-natural site properties, turns the sample into a sufficient example of Garden Design even if, not adequately paid heed by scholars and researchers contemporarily. Referring prominently architectural features lying in “Cheshmeh Ali” complex and regarding to architectural and scenery compartments damage, the project goes through an analytic research on historic Qajar construction, building pathology and representation of the rehabilitation and conservation strategies, whilst firstly introducing the monument; that is, the following proposal is the indicative of “Cheshmeh Ali” revival planning and rehabilitation outlines naming “ The Cheshmeh Ali Tourism Master Planning” by the virtue of theories verified by conservators and authoritative documents.

Irregular and superabundance of use Cheshmeh Ali River by
public visitors is the main problem of the site, as resumptions
of this process does a serious harm to riverbed which is the
origin of vicinal villages. To prevent such destruction, a pit
assigned to a large pond in an organic form at the center of
turistic site to set up direct connection between riverbed and
visitors are considered indirectly.
In designing & constructing the borders of riverbed, whereas
formed in thousands of years, no manipulation will occurred.
All the border long specified to topological stands for visitors
to relax & observate the historic site. In a way that when the
river overflows & the level of water increases it embraces the
stands made of gabions & saturated wood while with increasing visitors population they would be reusable by decreasing the level of water in warm seasons.

In conclusion, the temporary architectural design of touristic
camp devised in order to achieve a sustainable design that will be integrated to its natural environment.
