Faryoumad historic Mosque is one of the most valuable monument in Iran. Despite the emphasis on the existence of several periods of construction in contemporary reports of the complex, there are different ideas in the history of the construction and development and the identification of sponsors and architects of the mosque. There are periods of physical changes in the original mosque and its transformation from the initial form, which has undoubtedly made repairs and reconstruction of the mosque inevitable due to the occurrence of severe earthquakes in the region.

Emphasizing on the values of Faryoumad mosque, the present study, aims to examine the timeline of the first construction of the original mosque, the history of periodic additions and its physical developments. In addition, studied seeks to identify the individuals who involved in the construction of the mosque; including sponsors, architects and artists who built or decorate it throughout history.

The main research strategy is to use a descriptive-analytical approach. To answer the questions, the researchers emphasized accurate field studies and comprehensive documentation of the building, conducted follow-up studies, laboratory studies, existing documents, and historical ones. According to the findings, although the existing decorations reflect the Ilkhanid Style (14 Century) based on convincing reasons, the primary mosque was built in the Seljuk period (12 Century). Based on evidence, the original mosque had a single porch (Ivan) structure that was destroyed because of earthquakes. During the Ilkhanid period, with the advent of the powerful minister; “Aladdin Mohammad Faryoumadi” and because of his attention to the hometown, gained more credibility, so it was transformed into a place for him to represent his glory & power.

During his ministry (1316-1336A.C) in addition to the construction of the Shahrestan mansion (residential palace), hospital and library in his hometown, he became the financial sponsor of the ambitious reconstruction and renovation of the old mosque. According to the inscription at the top of the magnificent altar on the south porch, “Ali Ibn Muhammad Al-Mahmoud Al-Jami Al-Shahrestani” has been in charge of renovating and restoration of the mosque.
